Go Go Cho

One of the many things I learned in America

We had thunder and intense lightning last week. When we had meeting, my supervisor said to everybody.”Let’s go out to hold long steel sticks in order to keep other buildings safe. One goes to the parking lot and the other to the visitor’s circle…” One of the student workers replied him. “Do you want me to go hold it on the roof too?” Everybody laughed. After the meeting, I asked one of them seriously. “I don’t understand. Why do we need to hold steel sticks in this bad weather?” They laughed a lot. “Oh no! he didn’t mean it!” and one told me. “Cho. Never believe Americans when they say something ‘seriously.’” If I didn’t know that, I might have hit by a stroke.

What I learned from this: Americans love sarcasm.
